Ohio Sledding Hills 130 sledding and tubing spots, including a toboggan run
Every spot here is one an agency or operator lists for sledding or tubing on its own website. Find the closest one, then check with the park before you head out. Bring extra mittens.
Find a hill near you
Type your ZIP code and we'll line up the closest spots. Distances are straight-line miles, not driving miles. Spots without a map pin are listed separately, not ranked.
The short answer
This guide lists 130 sledding and tubing spots that an agency or operator names on its own website: 126 sledding hills, 3 snow tubing parks and 1 toboggan run with twin chutes. 12 have agency wording that says they're free; for most others the agency doesn't state a cost. 14 are listed as lit for night sledding. We don't report whether a hill is open today, so check with the park before you go.
Make it a snow day
The best sled days end somewhere warm. These spots are listed as lit and have a fire nearby, or they come with a lodge. In the agency descriptions we have, none lists both lights and an indoor warming lodge, so pick your kind of day.
Lake Metroparks lists this small lit hill as a sledding spot for young children, with sledding hours until 11 pm, a fireplace at the picnic shelter (wood as available) and restrooms.
Lake Metroparks says the smaller slope is ideal for children just beginning to sled. It lists sledding hours until 11 pm and a fire ring near the picnic shelter (wood as available).
Lake Metroparks calls it the steepest, most thrilling sledding hill in the park district. It lists sledding hours until 11 pm and a fire ring near the picnic shelter.
Cleveland Metroparks says its twin 700-foot refrigerated chutes run with or without snow, and the Chalet has wood-burning fireplaces and a concession stand. Reservations are required.
The operator says these are the longest tubing lanes in Ohio, and lists a tubing lodge with a snack bar and a fireside patio. Online reservations only.
Fires and lodges are as each agency or operator describes them. Lake Metroparks says the wood at its fire rings is "as available", so bring your own cocoa.

How to read a card. The red button links the agency's alerts page (Agency alerts, 40 spots) or, for 5 spots, the agency's or operator's activity page (Park info). Neither tells us whether a hill is open today, and we don't report that. Each card then separates the agency's published sledding guidance, its hours, and our own tip. Quotation marks mean the agency's exact words.
Lights, shelters, restrooms and children's slopes show only where the agency says so, so a missing one means not stated, not no. "Cost not stated" means the agency doesn't say what sledding costs. 18 spots have no map pin yet. Their cards give road or landmark directions instead.

Before you go
Sled-day checklist
Sled smart
Think about helmets. Many families use a ski or bike helmet for sledding. Check that it fits and follow the helmet maker's guidance.
Ride sitting up, facing downhill. Going head-first puts your head in front. Follow your sled's own instructions for riding and steering.
Look at the bottom first. Look for a long, flat, open area at the bottom, away from trees, roads, fences, parking lots and water.
After dark, use a lit hill. The cards show which hills the agency lists as lit.
Walk up the side. Summit Metro Parks asks sledders to "walk up the side of sled hills, not in the center" (Summit Metro Parks). It's a good habit anywhere.
Take turns. Wait until the run below you is clear, and keep little kids close.
Did you know?
You can borrow a sled. Worthington runs a Little Sled Library at Olentangy Parklands where you can borrow a sled or donate one. Mansfield's Liberty Park has a Sled Shed with free loaner sleds.Sources: City of Worthington, City of Mansfield.
There's a hill just for little kids. Mill Creek MetroParks in Youngstown lists "Hobbit Hill", a gentle slope reserved for children 48″ and under, at its Wick Recreation Area.Source: Mill Creek MetroParks.
Ohio has an ice toboggan run. Cleveland Metroparks' Chalet in Strongsville runs twin 700-foot refrigerated chutes. You climb 108 steps to the top.Source: Cleveland Metroparks.
Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks lists 8 sled hills and calls sledding a “free winter activity” (Metro Parks). It says park staff monitor the hills, and you bring your own sled. Metro Parks says Sharon Woods Metro Park has “a bunny hill for small children” and Walnut Woods Metro Park (Buckeye Area sledding hill) has “just the right slope for young kids”. The closest spots to downtown (ZIP 43215), in straight-line miles, are Scioto Audubon Metro Park in Columbus, about 2 miles, Jack Nicklaus Park in Upper Arlington, about 4 miles and Reed Road Park in Upper Arlington, about 5 miles.
The City of Columbus parks website blocks automated checks, so we haven't verified the city's own hills yet and they aren't listed.
Where are the best sledding hills near Cincinnati?
Cincinnati's own city parks, including Mt. Storm and Ault Park, require Park Board permission to sled (Park Board Rule 24), so they aren't listed here.
Most agencies on our list don't give a number. They say things like "when there is snow" or "a proper amount of snow". Summit Metro Parks is the exception: it says the best condition for its hills is “frozen ground with at least two inches of snow cover” (Summit Metro Parks). That is Summit's guidance for its own hills, not a rule for every hill. Mill Stream Run Reservation (The Chalet Toboggan Chutes) is different: Cleveland Metroparks says its refrigerated chutes run “with or without snow” (Cleveland Metroparks).
At many of them. ODNR lists sledding at 30 state parks here. For 21 of them ODNR doesn't say where on the property to sled, so ask the park office which slope to use. A few name a spot, like Dillon State Park near the archery range and Punderson State Park (Lighted sled hill), which is lit. ODNR says sledding is not permitted on the dam at Mosquito Lake (ODNR) or on the dam slope at A.W. Marion (ODNR).
When does the Chalet toboggan run open for 2026-27?
Cleveland Metroparks says the 2026-27 toboggan season opens November 27, 2026, and reservations open November 20 at noon. It lists daily tickets for 2026-27 at $15 for adults and $13 for children 11 and younger, with toboggans included. Riders must be at least 42 inches tall and wear gloves or mittens that cover their fingertips. For daily updates, Cleveland Metroparks lists (440) 572-9990, option 6.
Where this list comes from
We searched the park districts, city parks departments, ODNR state-park pages and tubing operators we could find in all five regions. A spot made the list only when the agency or operator that runs it names it for sledding or tubing on its own website. News roundups, visitor-bureau lists and Facebook posts were never enough on their own. Each card links the page we relied on, and we saved the exact sentence.
On October 12, 2026, the saved sentence for 128 of the 130 listings was re-matched automatically on its page (104 distinct pages, since some listings share one). The pages for the other 2 listings block automated checks, so their sentences were confirmed by hand in a browser. We left out spots where sledding is banned or restricted (Cincinnati city parks, the Mosquito Lake and A.W. Marion dams, Summit Metro Parks trails), spots an agency no longer lists, and spots only news stories mention. Read the full method or send a correction to hello@sledhills.com.
